Raymond Fisman (Speaker)

Raymond Fisman is the Lambert Family Professor of Social Enterprise and Director of the Social Enterprise Program at the Graduate School of Business, Columbia University. His most recent book, with Edward Miguel, is Economic Gangsters: Violence, Corruption, and the Poverty of Nations (Princeton University Press, 2008).
Professor Fisman received his B.A. in mathematics with honours from McGill University in 1993 and his Ph.D. in business economics from Harvard University in 1998. He served as a consultant with the Africa Technical Division and Development Economics Research Group of the World Bank from 1998 to 1999; in 1999 he joined the faculty of the Columbia Business School. His research topics include the impact of corporate social responsibility, the determinants of altruism, and global corruption. In addition to his scholarly publications, Professor Fisman writes a monthly column for the online magazine Slate. He is currently working on a book about the economics of office life, to be published in 2012.
